3D Character Artist

We are looking for a 3D Character Artist to bring our unannounced PS VR2 title to life at nDreams Studio. As a 3D Character Artist, you will be responsible for the interpretation, creation, and refinement of high-end characters and props, working collaboratively in cross functional teams to deliver visual treatments for the team at Farnborough.

With a focus on style, characterization, and deformation as much technical excellence, help build our creative environment that fosters self-improvement and ownership, whilst establishing pipelines and processes.

nDreams’ PlayStation VR titles are among the most critically acclaimed on the platform and we are driven to set the benchmark for PlayStation VR2 in the same way. In this role, you’ll work alongside a team dedicated to fulfilling this mission in a creative structure that lets you make a real impact on the game.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development of character concepts to ensure they meet the artistic, narrative and technical requirements of the games you are helping to make.
  • Faithfully create characters that advance the artistic vision of the game.
  • Communicate across disciplines, from animation to code to delivering assets that fulfil gameplay requirements.
  • Work with Art Director and Art Lead to achieve production goals, managing time effectively to maintain a schedule of work whilst working under own initiative.
  • Work with the Character Team and Technical Art Team to create suitable solutions for all aesthetic and technical challenges.
  • Become a guardian of quality and well-balanced production sensibilities that ensure scenarios for success.
  • Help shape and to be part of our cross disciplined team that prioritises the best game and experience over individual disciplines.


Essential capabilities:

  • An accomplished 3D character artist with proven experience in producing AAA content for games.
  • An ability to interpret 2D concept art and reference it into high-quality 3D real-time character art.
  • The ability to understand game genres and art styles and create characters that live in those worlds.
  • Working knowledge of industry-standard project management tools and source control software.
  • Evidence of visual flair and creative decision-making in producing awesome game-ready characters.
  • Highly skilled in sculpting, real-time modelling, and material creation.
  • Experience or demonstrable transferrable skills to work in Maya, Substance Painter and Unreal.
  • A passion for video games, art, and commitment to personal development.
  • Positive and outgoing personality with a can-do attitude and be able to adapt based on feedback.
  • Comfortable working in an Agile environment and responsive to change in the face of uncertainty.

Desired experience:

  • 2-3 years game development experience and/or 1 published games.
  • An aptitude to apply themselves to new technologies.
  • Excellent Maya, Zbrush, Substance Painter capabilities.
  • Demonstrable PBR material generation.
  • Experience in rigging and skinning characters that deform effectively.
