Channel 4 Daytime & Features who deliver more than 1500 hours into the C4, More4, E4 & ALL4 portfolio. We aim to bring popular, distinctive & engaging features content with our innovative ways into lifestyle subjects and the best talent on TV.

JOB PURPOSE

To work with Commissioning Daytime & Features team to help manage our slate of long-running / retuning shows and deliver new titles across the portfolio

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work to ensure the quality & delivery of returning series
  • Deliver new series – working with indies to set format and tone
  • Work across multiple series and aspects of the portfolio simultaneously
  • Deliver existing and new series to E4
  • Work with indies and HOD on the recommissioning of returning series – including working with finance on budget and pitching at Genre meetings.
  • Help manage channel relationship with big on screen talent and develop new talent
  • View high volume of programmes & give editorial notes in timely manner to ensure quality & editorial rigour across our output
  • Be the main point of contact with producers on shows in production and keep HOD informed
  • Work with producers to deliver shows to budget, on schedule and to the expected standard & to ensure that Covid Protocols are kept up to date and in line with changing guidance.
  • Ensure that programmes are produced to Channel 4’s Editorial Guidelines
  • Develop effective working relationships with other departments in the Channel e.g. legal and compliance, marketing, press, scheduling etc
  • Develop and maintain a close and effective working relationship with the key independent production companies
  • To advocate for the best ideas and share the strategic aims of Daytime & Features with independent companies and at events

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

Technical & Professional Skills

  • Proven production experience in delivering Channel 4 shows for prime-time slots with PSB values at heart and operating at an exec level or above.
  • In depth knowledge of the D&F slate and historical output
  • Proven production experience across a range of genres eg E4 and Ents, in development and production
  • Highly organised & with an excellent eye for detail.
  • Experienced in finessing the editorial on a project in line with the agreed budget.
  • Strong understanding of legal/compliance guidelines.
  • Experience of delivering high volume on budget whilst maintaining ambition for the project.
  • Experience in taking a project from paper to screen
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to give clear & timely feedback in a business and creative context
  • The ability to be flexible with communication style, depending on what is most effective for the situation
  • Collaborative with colleagues and works in an open and inclusive way
  • Resilient and tenacious
  • Proven experience of the unique editorial challenges of live shows & experience in making swift editorial calls under pressure.
  • Knowledge of a range of independent production companies
  • Awareness of how content can be maximised across the portfolio on social and digital platforms (not just linear channels)

Autonomy/Judgement/Decision Making

  • Proven sound editorial judgement and a demonstrable understanding of recent broadcasting output, audience, schedule, presentation, able to contribute to the departments strategic vision
  • Strong prioritising and time management skills, demonstrable ability to work to hard deadlines
  • Will be working in a different location to some colleagues so needs to be autonomous and proactively manage communications between all C4 bases (Glasgow, Leeds, Bristol & London)

Relationship Management

  • Demonstrable experience of managing relationships within a complex PSB, members of your immediate and wider teams and on and off screen talent

Complexity/Problem Solving

  • Job holder may face a number of unpredictable and unique problems e.g. a ground-breaking show may raise problems across the spectrum of editorial, legal, press, marketing, publicity and independent company liaison
  • High degree of creativity required when developing ideas and problem solving with highly demanding and unpredictable talent and production companies on programme content
  • Role holder will need to assess the impact of any contentious material on the general public
