Role Responsibility

Our Costume Runners report to the Series Costume Designer.

Joining the Casualty costume team, the aim of the role is to support the department in all areas and in line with the requirements of the department and Series Costume Designer.

This role is key in assisting every team member of the costume department, from the Series Designer in regards to the requirements for regular artists costumes and their crossovers between episodes, which includes conveying and ensuring that the correct items are with each team and the Wardrobe Assistant and any duties that are required to enable the smooth running of the department.

Organising and monitoring are daily qualities required for this post to ensure that there is adequate supply and stock levels for the department, this also includes monitoring that all costumes and stock are put back in their correct places from all dressing rooms, maintaining the costume truck to ensure it is always fully supplied and assisting in the maintenance of the regular artist costumes by completing any dry cleaning, washing, ironing, repairs and labelling whilst making sure that the continuity book is always up to date.

Being the focal point for all IT requirements and issues is also key in this role, from arranging with IT for account issues, to organising and helping the team with the department equipment.

Communication is also a key quality for a large department, from ensuring that any requests within team members are conveyed and completed and comments or requirements given by a regular artist or guest are communicated to the Series Designer.

The Ideal Candidate

To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate the following –

  • Experience within a costume department in the media
  • Experience of IT equipment, to include but limited to laptops, desktops, iPads and software packages, such as Microsoft, Adobe to name but a few
  • A good understanding of the principles, practices and roles for costume within television and film production
  • An ability to do alterations and have good sewing skills
  • An ability of working independently, using your own judgement
  • An ability to effectively manage and prioritise tasks to a deadline
  • An ability to work efficiently to all continuity needs
  • Knowledge and passion for Drama, especially Casualty
