Pipeline Technical Director

Framestore is one of the largest visual effects and computer animation studios in Europe, with over 30 years experience in digital film and video technology. With offices in London, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Montreal, Framestore’s expertise includes visual effects and computer generated imagery.

The Pipeline Technical Directors are responsible for writing and maintaining workflow tools for use on these high-end visual effects projects within the Integrated Advertising division. They will work within the global pipeline team, supporting a broad range of live-action and computer generated projects with a variety of digital content including theme park rides, commercials, brand work, episodic, immersive and features.

Although Framestore is still currently working remotely, this is a staff position that may eventually require at least some onsite work at our Chicago studio once it is deemed safe to do so.

Responsibilities:

• Writing pipeline tools and further developing the pipeline for use across Framestore
• Working in collaboration with the CG Supervisor and end users to determine the best solutions
• Once a solution has been agreed then ensure that it addresses end user and show requirements as briefed
• Maintaining of tools including troubleshooting and optimisation
• Thorough documentation of all development and updating as necessary
• Ongoing research to recommend improvements to workflows in order to improve productivity or communication

• Excellent communication and documentation skills
• The ability to prioritise production needs and tasks
• Detail oriented with a strong ability to multitask
• A general understanding of networking and performance issues that arise with automated tools
• A degree in Computer Science or equivalent
• Must have valid US work authorization

Desired Skills:

• A working knowledge of Linux, Python, Maya and Nuke an advantage
• Visual effects production experience an advantage
• A broad understanding of the visual effects process, from shooting through to compositing is an advantage
