Your New Role

We are currently looking for a Producer to join the London team for Amanpour, CNN International’s flagship global affairs interview programme.

The Producer provides editorial guidance to a team of writers/segment producers based in London and New York and is responsible for taking the show to air. You will be responsible for outputting the show in the control room. You will determine the rundown, you will react to breaking news, and you are in the control room for the live show. When not outputting, the Producer will prepare guest segments for the show.

Role Accountabilities

• Responsible for taking the programme to air in the London control room
• Assigning show segments to a team of writers/segment producers
• Advising writers/segment producers on editorial story lines, visuals, show components
• Assisting the EP in determining stories to cover and their treatment
• In the run-up to the show, ensuring all scripts are written, all video material is in place and ready to air
• Building a “rundown” to guide the programme and time the show and sometimes being prepared to write elements of the show
• Working in conjunction with control room staff who get the show on air based on the rundown
• The Producer will be expected to pitch story and guest ideas
• The Producer will be required to contribute to the digital strategy and production of the show
• Being prepared to change the running order at a moment’s notice if the news changes or in case of technical problems.

Qualifications & Experience

• A degree, ideally in journalism, arts or humanities, or equivalent experience.
• Thorough knowledge of international news and global affairs
• Substantial experience in broadcast journalism
• Proven control room experience outputting TV newscasts
• Experience in a news environment
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure
• Languages other than English are an advantage.
• Specialty knowledge of an industry, subject matter or region of the world is advantageous
• Field production knowledge
• Social media and digital interest and knowledge
