Job Summary

The Senior Videographer will shoot and/or edit video for news programs, live coverage, breaking news and other productions and promotions for all news services. This is a senior videographer role and will serve as a subject matter expert within the team for quality newsgathering and technical skills.

Responsibilities

  • With guidance from management this role will lead, coach, guide and train staff colleagues and be sought out by management and colleagues for their technical expertise.
  • Serve as a lead videographer and work in independent or team settings to create pictures and sound which accurately and fairly represent the news.
  • Record raw video and audio suitable for the distribution of news services and turn it into a finished product
  • Demonstrate professionalism and expertise of job responsibilities while providing news coverage for exclusive, high-profile events (i.e., local rallies, political campaigns, news features, etc.).
  • Edit video and audio material for distribution of the news services, including segments or entire programs (includes incorporating video, sound, and/or graphics all from various sources to deliver a package ready for playback in the proper format)
  • Understand, follow, and exhibit the process of creative photojournalism and editing.
  • Keep informed of current events, take part in planning process and propose stories to be covered.
  • Maintain assigned equipment, including news vehicles, cameras, lights, editors, backpacks, and peripheral gear, initiating repairs when necessary.
  • Drive news vehicles to carry out the responsibilities of this role while maintaining an accident free driving record, avoiding parking tickets, and driving violations.
  • Effectively operate production and transmission equipment.
  • Tune in satellite, microwave and fiber transmissions to receive live reports or to record material from remote locations.
  • Coordinate playback of edited material and maintain video archives.
  • Duplicate material to fulfill requests as directed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Previous full-time News experience in television field production required
  • Professional recognition in the form of significant awards preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • Strong proficiency in use of production equipment
  • Strong proficiency in news operations and practices.
  • Expertise with editing software, such as Adobe Premiere/Premiere Pro, Photoshop and After Effects
  • Strong proficiency with Electronic News Production Systems (ENPS)
  • Strong understanding of Master Control systems and Satellite feed operations.
  • Consistently demonstrates creativity and independence in pursuit of stories and assignments.
  • Flexible schedule with ability to work nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Advanced training preferred.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds of weight for an extended period of time and physical ability to move quickly while carrying equipment when needed.
