Offered as a freelance contract externally (secondment / contract internally) from April to October 2023
Office Location: London (remote working may be considered however you will be expected to work in the London Office (White City) at least 2 days per week.

The team

MultiStory Media are a team of passionate story-tellers working across a broad range of genres: Current Affairs, Entertainment, Politics, Factual Entertainment, Documentaries and Drama. Our shows speak for themselves: Tonight is the nation’s most watched Current Affairs series, Martin Lewis ‘the most trusted man in Britain’, the Up series has been voted the ‘greatest-ever achievement in documentary film-making’, and Come Dine with Me is the world’s most prolific Factual Entertainment format with over 14,000 episodes produced around the globe.

After the success of the Fresh Cuts strand in 2022, ITV and MultiStory Media (part of ITV Studios) are launching Fresh Cuts 2023 through the Diversity Commissioning Fund. First Time Black Producer/Directors (PDs) or Directors will be making their first single factual non-scripted film for ITV, which will be shown in October 2023 as part of our Black History Month programming.

The role

To create and lead production of outstanding, distinctive, multi-platform and commercially successful content within operational, financial and legal constraints.

Key responsibilities:

  • To work with the executive producer to set and maintain production and editorial standards and lead the overall creative management of a series
  • To provide creative leadership to the editorial team, guiding them through production of the documentaries, demonstrating sound editorial judgement within editorial guidelines throughout
  • To work collaboratively with the executive producer to visually drive the content of the series both in terms of style, scripting and structure encouraging innovation, on-going creative renewal and high production values
  • To work closely with production management and finance colleagues to manage and mitigate events as they arise through production and taking appropriate action

Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)

  • A demonstrable track record in delivering editorial content for programmes in the documentary genre or in a similar field.
  • Proven ability to contribute to the development process with a range of new and viable ideas
  • Demonstrable ability to show a resourceful and solution-focussed approach to achieving editorial ambition within budgetary and legal constraints
  • An understanding of the Ofcom code and any production related legislation
  • Excellent communicator with proven ability to develop and manage a diverse range of production teams
  • Proven ability to manage all people issues (both on and off-screen talent) with tact and diplomacy making a conscious effort to build rapport to ensure the smooth running a series
  • Excited to be working on a series of documentary films that have been specifically commissioned as part of Black History Month with new Black filmmakers

  • Good project management skills demonstrating proficiency in all aspects of production leadership: creative, commercial, technical, logistical and people
  • Enthusiasm and resilience with a proven ability to maintain performance levels in the face of ever-changing priorities and workload
  • A passion for nurturing fresh, diverse and distinct new voices and to help realise their unique vision to bring their ideas to fruition
