Domestika is an online learning platform filled with courses for creatives.

We’ve been using Domestika for several years and it’s now one of our favorite places to learn online. It might not be as well-known as sites like Skillshare but we think this could be about to change.

In this review, we test out Domestika by looking at course quality, features, pricing, and ease of use.

What is Domestika?

Domestika is an online learning platform for learning creative skills like video production, graphic design, and plenty more. It first launched in Spain as a social community for creatives but the company has shifted to online learning in recent years.

The social elements of Domestika are still there but online courses are the main focus now.

If you’ve tried other online learning websites like Udemy, the first thing you’ll about Domestika is how easy it is to use. The company produces all of its courses in-house, which means the website is designed for learners only. You don’t have to navigate through sections for teachers or choose which kind of account to set up.

You can click on your first course from the homepage, quickly sign up for an account and start learning right away.

A selection of online courses available on Domestika.

We want an online learning platform that makes it easy to find and buy courses – with no hidden fees. Domestika wins on both counts. Course categories make it easy to explore content and pricing is clearly displayed on every course.

One of our favorite things about Domestika is that you can pay for individual courses or sign up for a subscription if you want to take multiple courses.

The quality of the courses is consistently high, too. Domestika produces all of its content with creative experts so each course meets the same quality standards. If you’ve tried other online learning platforms in the past, you may have noticed some courses were better than others.

You won’t have this problem with Domestika.

Who is Domestika for?

Domestika is one of the best online learning platforms for creatives. Perhaps you’re dreaming of a career as a professional creative and looking to take those first key steps. You might even be a seasoned pro already but want to add some new skills to the repertoire.

Maybe you’re not even thinking about work. You might simply have a passion for video editing, photography, music production, or something else you want to learn for your own pleasure.

Whatever it is that’s driving your creative interests, Demestika can help you develop the skills you need.

How Does it Work?

Getting started with Domestika is super easy. Follow these 6 simple steps.

  1. Click on the link above and visit the homepage
  2. Click on the “Sign up” button (top right)
  3. Create your account (or log in with Facebook)
  4. Pick at least one category that you are interested in from the list
  5. Complete your login and access your dashboard
  6. From here, simply choose your course, pay for it, and get started!
Domestika's sign up form asks for an email address, password, and your date of birth.

You can sign up instantly via your Facebook account or create a new account from scratch by adding an email address, password, and date of birth.

Next, Domestika will ask you what you want to learn and you can select your favorite creative categories.

Domestika asks you to select at least one course category while creating your account.

Once you’ve confirmed your email address, you can browse through the courses and start learning right away.

Domestika will recommend courses in the categories you selected while signing up but you can also browse through all of the courses yourself by clicking on the top-left menu and selecting Courses.

We should point out that many of the courses are recorded in Spanish with subtitles for English and other languages. Domestika first launched in Spain but the company has been producing a lot of courses in English over the past few years.

Now, it feels like roughly half of the courses are in English and more are being added all the time.

Each course page includes language information, showing the audio language and subtitle options available.

Every Domestika course page includes language details for the audio and subtitles available.

We don’t have a problem with taking courses in Spanish using English subtitles but this is something to keep in mind.

If you’re unsure, we recommend signing up for a one-month subscription to Domestika Plus. This is the most affordable way to test courses in English and Spanish with subtitles.

Domestika Features

As an online learning platform, it’s pretty obvious what Doemstika’s most important features are.

  • Creatives network – Connect with other creatives who you can learn from, gain feedback or partner with for projects requiring multiple skill sets.

Once you set up your Domestika account, you’ll see course recommendations in your dashboard. You can scan through these or scroll further down to start browsing through different course categories.

Course recommendations show in the main dashboard of your account.

Prices are clearly shown for every course and you’ll notice some are labeled Free with Plus. If you find a bunch of courses you like the look of with this label, you might want to sign up for Domestika Plus to save a bunch of money.

More on this in a moment.

Software Classes

As a creative, knowing how to use professional tools is just as important as learning theory. Domestika knows this and you’ll find plenty of courses on the website for learning the most popular tools used by creatives.

Final Cut ProAdobe PhotoshopCapture OneCinema 4D

Obviously, our main interest is video and photography tools but Domestika has software courses for every creative category on its site.

If you want to check which software courses are available on Domestika, take a look at the All Software page on their website.

Domestika Creatives Network

Domestika was originally an online community for creatives. Long before the company started producing online courses, the platform was a place for creatives to connect. The company may have shifted its business model but its Creatives network is still an important part of the platform.

You can use your profile as a portfolio and connect with other creatives to build your own network. You can partner with other creatives or team up on projects that need multiple skill sets and learn from more experienced creatives.

Best of all, you can access this network for free by creating a Domestika account with no obligation to purchase any courses.

Mobile App

With Domestika’s mobile app, you watch courses on the go and learn anywhere. You can download courses to your phone and watch them anywhere without an internet connection or using any data.

Admittedly, the bus ride to work may not be the best place to take a new course. However, the app is a great way to rewatch courses you’ve already taken and refresh your memory.

Domestika Projects

You can show off your best work on Domestika in the Projects page. Members can view your work, leave comments and follow you to see what you work on in the future.

This is a great way to create your first portfolio and look at other people’s work for inspiration.

Course Certificates

If you subscribe to Domestika Plus, you get a signed certificate every time you complete a course.

Certificates are signed by your tutor and you can share them on social media or embed them on your website.

Domestika Pricing

We love the flexibility of Domestika’s pricing strategy. Basically, you’ve got two options: either buy individual courses or sign up for a Domestika Plus subscription.

Courses typically cost between $9-$40 and buying individually gives you lifetime access to each course.

A list of online courses with prices clearly shown for each of them.

Buying individually also means you don’t have to worry about any monthly subscription fees. You simply buy the courses you want to take, when you want to take them.

The other option is to subscribe to Domestika Plus, which offers annual and monthly plans. If you sign up for a year, you’ll be charged $83.88 upfront, which is equivalent to $6.99 per month.

You can also pay monthly for $9.99 per month.

Domestika Plus gives you access to thousands of courses across each category and you can access as many as you like. Not all Domestika courses are available on this plan, though, and you only get access while your subscription is active.

Courses available on Domestika Plus are labeled, as you can see below.

Once you create your free Domestika account, we recommend choosing a few courses you like the look of. If none of them are available on Plus, go ahead and buy the course that looks most interesting.

If any of the courses you want to take are available on Domestika Plus, sign up for a one-month subscription. For $9.99, you’re getting access to this course for a whole month and you can try a bunch of other courses to get a better sense of what it’s like to learn with Domestika.

Is Domestika Worth it or Not?

So, is Domestika worth it or not? Thankfully, it’s easy to recommend this online learning platform. Not only is it one of the best places for creatives to learn new skills, but it’s also excellent value for money.

We love having the flexibility to buy individual courses or sign up for Domestika Plus. Buying individually means you’re not paying for anything you don’t need or want and you get lifetime access to the courses you buy. On the other hand, if you’ve got a whole bunch of courses you want to take, Domestika Plus can save you a lot of money.
